Free File allows taxpayers who earned below certain thresholds in 2024 to file their taxes electronically for free using brand-name software provided by commercial tax filing companies. Free File Fillable forms are available to any income level and provide free electronic forms that people fill out and file themselves — also at no cost.

For taxpayers with an annual Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $84,000 or less in 2024, one tool available to you is the IRS Free File. “Over the years, Free File has helped millions of taxpayers, providing a fast and simple way to file their returns,” IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said in a statement.

The IRS has relaunched its Free File program, offering a streamlined, cost-free way for Americans to file their taxes. With new features for 2025, including a Spanish-language option, this tool is set to make tax season easier for millions.

This year’s tax season begins Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, lasting through April 15. People filing taxes for income made in 2024 must do so by that April deadline, also known as Tax Day. Not everyone is required to file a tax return,
