Turns out, an abysmal loss to the Cardinals in Arizona wasn’t rock bottom. The Patriots were destroyed by the Chargers in a national showcase on Saturday afternoon, 40-7. Jerod Mayo said he hoped his team would be playing its best football at the season’s end and spoke to the locker room about playing spoiler this week.

It’s premature to say the Patriots have hit rock bottom, if only because there’s a possibility that they could still lose to Bills backups in Week 17. But Saturday’s 40-7 loss to the Chargers was certainly the low point in the season for Jerod Mayo’s Patriots.
