Kenya is aiming to complete its full deployment of a stabilization force in violence-torn Haiti by January, President William Ruto said Thursday, as Haiti's leader suggested making it a UN peacekeeping mission.

Kenya will deploy additional police officers to Haiti to help the government there fight armed gangs as part of a 2,500-strong multinational force, President William Ruto said on Thursday. Port-au-Prince.- Kenyan President William Ruto announced the arrival of an additional 600 Kenyan troops to join the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) in Haiti, aiming to help local police combat violent armed gangs.

This will bring the Kenyan contingent helping Haitian police fight gangs up to 1,000.

The security mission in Haiti led by troops from Kenya is set to receive more men from the East African nation in the coming weeks. This is in line with the promise the Kenyan president made in 2023 to aid in curtailing the insecurity issues in the Caribbean country.

President William Ruto has committed to deploy 600 more police officers in the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti. Speaking on Saturday, September 21, Ruto said Kenya stands ready to offer any further support that will accelerate Haiti’s transition to peace and stability.
