Aldi and Lidl have been rivals in the supermarket world for many years, and there's no doubt that shoppers consider them to be the cheapest for many of their groceries.

Consumer champions Which? asked members to rate the quality, taste and value for money of the Christmas food they bought - and whether they would recommend them to others

Aldi received a score of 84% - beating the likes of Marks & Spencer at 82%, Waitrose at 80% and Lidl at 78% - in a survey of over 8,000 Which? members.

But none of these were just revealed as the fastest-growing supermarket in the UK – and interestingly, the one that was crowned doesn’t even have any brick-and-mortar stores.
