NASA's Parker Solar Probe hurtled through the sizzling solar atmosphere and passed within a record-breaking 3.8 million miles of the sun's surface.

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has successfully completed its record-breaking flyby, coming within just 3.8 million miles (6.1 million kilometers) of the solar surface on Christmas Eve.

NASA sent its Parker Solar Probe just 3.8 million miles from the surface of the Sun — and it survived. The probe transmitted a signal back to Earth on the night of December 26th, “indicating it’s in good health and operating normally,” according to NASA.
